THE EXHIBITION OF ARTWORKS BY DR PETER HUGHES
05.12.2022 – 09.01.2023
“My art is a part of who I am. Through my travels I attempt to capture beauty and nature and express them in a beautiful juxtaposition of light and colour.” – Dr Peter Hughes.
Peter was born on the Fylde coast of England and is currently working as a teacher in Blackpool.
He has drawn, illustrated and painted his whole life.
He attended Blackpool Art College and successfully graduated in 1980 as a Technical Illustrator. After Art College he worked as an Engineering Illustrator in Coventry, illustrating car engines.
On returning to the Fylde Coast, he established a successful Graphic Design studio, eventually expanding his company into publishing.
One of the artists dreams was to attend university. Peter read Building Surveying (BSc) at the University of Central Lancashire, graduating with a first in 2008. He continued his studies completing a PhD in material science in 2013.
Peter was invited as Associate Professor to undertake a 2-year post-doctoral research programme in Japan.
This gave him an opportunity to paint and study the history of Japanese art and poetry.
As Professor of Engineering in China he was given a task to encourage civil engineering students to draw. He painted, wrote poetry, read Confucius and Chinese history. He collaborated with a university in Ireland and spent wonderful times on the River Shannon, painting and writing his first novel.
In January 2020 he returned home for his new year holiday unable to return to China due to the outbreak of Covid. Lockdown restrictions gave him an opportunity to paint at home. As restrictions eased, he taught in a local school.
In recent times, normality has allowed him to travel to Norway and paint. His work over the summer is currently on show in a gallery in Norway. He has written and published papers around the world.
